Why did myra hindley kill the children
A search was carried out on the moors a year later, with Hindley joining officers in and Brady in On June 30, , after more than days of searching, the body of Pauline Reade was found buried 3 feet below the ground. It took pathologists a month to decide that the girl had been sexually assaulted and her throat slashed from behind. Keith is the only one of their victims never to have been found despite tireless campaigning by his mum Winnie, who died in In July a criminal psychologist who spent years writing to the killer shared her letters with the public in the hope someone could crack the code she believes Brady used to send secret messages.
But it was revealed he told a mental health worker he had left clues for police to find. He claims to have left a trowel in a stream near the burial site, but died before his secret could ever be exposed. On 21 September it was reported that Brady's hoard of letters and maps could be released imminently. He kept notes, maps and pictures of Saddleworth Moor in his secret collection, which could point to Keith's grave. In October it was revealed that he had been communicating with a psychology student in what she believed was a secret code.
Emilie Cassinelli, 30, spent a year exchanging letters with the killer and is convinced he was hiding something in his letters. She said in the letters he seemed manipulative and repeatedly blamed white collars, the media and politicians for "scourging the globe.
The mum-of-two told The Mirror seven years on she is still unable to understand the "eerie" code he created by switching between different fonts, ink colours and handwriting. Brady also repeatedly underlined particular words, including "capture" and "captive". In June it was claimed a huge wildfire on Saddleworth Moor could uncover Keith's grave.
Ian Brady died on Monday, May 15, with the murderer's time of death understood to be just before 6pm. A post-mortem revealed that his official cause of death was cor pulmonale and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease COPD. Coroner Christopher Sumner said Brady's body would not be released until assurances had been given that his ashes would not be scattered on Saddleworth Moor.
His body will be disposed of with "no music and no ceremony" , a High Court judge ruled. Brady was on hunger strike since and was kept alive by being force-fed a liquid nutrition mix. This year he revealed he was dying of a terminal lung and chest condition and had been bedridden for two years. But in a final insult to the victim's family he reportedly refused to show any remorse for his crimes hours before his death. Brady's own lawyer Robin Makin revealed he would be "very surprised" if the killer left any useful information about where Keith's body was , telling Radio 4: "He did go to the Moors a long time ago and I suspect that if there had been information for him that he could have provided, he would have provided it then.
He said he didn't personally have any information that could assist in the search for Keith, saying that he instead discussed Brady's legal wishes and funeral arrangements, with the killer aware that his death was "imminent". Cops have also vowed to not close the case into Keith's death, saying Brady's death would not change that. It coincided with a High Court appeal against a ruling that his accomplice should never be released.
He wrote: "[Myra] regarded periodic homicides as rituals of reciprocal innervation, marriage ceremonies theoretically binding us ever closer. He said he lied to cover for his former lover for "20 years" before she began to "fabricate" stories about the way he treated her. Brady was also convicted of the murder of John Kilbride with Hindley found guilty of acting as an accessory. In Brady and Hindley confessed to two further murders - those of Pauline Reade and Keith Bennett whose remains have never been found.
At least four of the children were sexually assaulted. Two of the victims were discovered in graves dug on Saddleworth Moor - and a third grave was discovered there in The body of fourth victim, Keith Bennett, is also thought to be buried there but remains undiscovered. A never-before-seen autobiography chapter by Hindley is included in the documents, as is her will and a letter from missing victim Keith Bennett's brother, Alan, dated January - 34 years after the youngster's death.
There is also a letter from Hindley's lesbian lover, Dutch criminologist Nina Wilde, who met the killer at Cookham Wood prison, Kent in In her autobiographical notes, Hindley writes: "When I grew older and used to babysit for neighbours, I often taught babies to walk with the aid of a kitchen chair turned upside down. My mother told me I learned to read and write from an early age, and could read and count and tell the time.
She writes articulately, focusing on her early life growing up, even comparing William Blake's "dark satanic mills" to her gran's work in the cotton mills. Hindley was raised between her mum and gran's house - and she describes a strained relationship with her father whose return from war brought an "unhappy upheaval" to her life.
She wrote: "Although I left the family home and moved to Gran's, I never felt rejected or 'farmed out', or unwanted. On the contrary, I had the best of both worlds. I used to go home to mam's for the midday meal where I had to be bribed, cajoled and sometimes threatened by my father to eat the stews and hotpots which I hated. The account is dated May 7, - and Hindley links her early years to those spent in jail.
On one occasion, she described stealing condensed milk as a child - with reference to prison milk. She wrote: "That condensed milk which we used while sugar was rationed got me more good hidings got me more good hidings than most other things, because I loved to stick my finger in the tin or eat it by the spoonful.
I bought two tins, one for 'emergencies' and one to eat, and I managed to get through the whole thing without feeling sick. The letter from Alan Bennett to Hindley includes well wishes for the woman who murdered his brother, aged 12, with accomplice Brady.
Keith's remains have never been found and Brady, who died of lung disease in , took the knowledge of his last resting place to the grave. After helping them clean up, he went home to his wife and they called the police. They investigated the apartment immediately and found Evans' body wrapped in a blanket and the axe used to kill him. Brady was arrested and tried to blame Smith.
When the apartment was searched again on October 15, the police found the photos of Lesley Ann Downey and the tape recording, which had Brady and Hindley's voices on it as well as Downey's, as well as a notebook with John Kilbride's name in it and a photograph of Hindley standing on his grave.
As evidence against them piled up, Brady and Hindley kept trying to place the blame on David Smith. Their trial began on April 27, and ended with both of them being found guilty of murder Brady for all three counts, Hindley for two counts and then guilty of accessory to murder in the case of John Kilbride.
Luckily for them, England had abolished capital punishment just a few weeks before their arrest and they were sentenced to life in prison. In , Brady confessed to the murders of Pauline Reade and Keith Bennett and the investigation was reopened. Both were taken to the Moor by the searchers to show where the bodies had been buried. Keith Bennett's body, however, has never been found. In , Hindley died of bronchial pneumonia at the age of In , Brady died of unspecified chest and lung conditions at the age of Brady and Hindley abducted their victims, who were boys and girls aged , with simple ruses.
After forcing them into their car, Brady would rape them with the exception of their last victim, Edward Evans and then kill them, either by strangling them with a piece of string possibly a shoelace or by slashing their throats. The bodies were then buried on the Saddleworth Moor. Before killing Lesley Ann Downey, they forced her to pose for photos and even tape-recorded her torture.
When they killed Edward Evans, Brady beat him to death with an ax and then strangled him with an electrical cord post-mortem. Criminal Minds Wiki Explore. The Show. Making Of. Real Life. Explore Wikis Community Central. Register Don't have an account?
