The reason one Might I said Might now, so don't jump down my throat is to maintain a specific oil pressure at normal operating temperature when there is wear to the point that we now have increased main, rod and cam bearing clearances resulting in lower oil pressure.
OK, Now you cal yell at me. Brad answered 7 years ago. Hi Jenn, At the risk of being drawn into this, I would say if you know what oil was put in at the last change put that in. If you don't know go with 5w or change it early so you will know for the future. I'll add a new twist to this. I purchased a Dodge Neon. From brand new I used 20W in the summer months, in the fall and winter I used 10W I now have , miles on it and it still runs like new, same acceleration power, and while using the 10W30 I may use ounces between oil changes, when the 20W50 is in there I do not have to add anything at all.
The heavier oil does not break down as quickly. And as for the CAFE standards that guy is correct. D43 answered 7 years ago. Is there not a moderator on this discussion? I can't believe that it was allowed to turn into the type of bashing that it did without someone stopping it. Any normal forum would not have tolerated it. KingStan answered 5 years ago. You had somebody that needed a question answered that was pretty fricken easy and it turned into a cat fight.
I think the first question i would have asked before i offered an answer was what country are you in, just to get the feel for the climate they might be driving and living in. Or if nothing else just to be friendly. Chuck answered 5 years ago. Do not and i repeat do not put or anthing else that oil in your escape. There is little parts called VCT solonoids inside the engine and if you run a thicker oil these soloniods wil fail and your engine light will come on. Just got mine fixed.
Keith answered 3 years ago. I have to say I have a Ford Escape with a 3. It was one quart low of oil because it does use a little oil every now and again because it's got about miles on it I thought it was a good idea because I've always done it to every vehicle I've had is add a bottle of Lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer very bad idea 5 minutes after I started the engine check engine light comes on didn't think much of it I've already put roughly about miles on it since was thinking about changing oil because it's about time for that got about more miles to go before oil change is due started researching found this post now I believe I know what the issue is so I'm changing my oil going back to the original 5w 20 no Lucas I'm hoping to have it done any permanent damage.
JustAGreaseMonkey4U answered 3 years ago. This was the most entertaining thread I think I've ever read!! Apparently questioning a man's oil knowledge is just as bad as sleeping with his wife! Thanks for the chuckle! That being said, run synthetic 5w With the higher miles, it offers more protection. I drive an 04 Mazda tribute the cheap version of an escape. And that's all I use.
And again, thanks for the laugh gentlemen. Fordtough answered 3 years ago. Enjoyed the entertaining thread! I used an oil additive on my 02 escape and one of the main bearings went on the engine at 24K miles so be careful what oil you use!
Steve answered 2 years ago. Darknightval answered 2 years ago. Oils used is based on your location. Use thinner oil in cold countries while thicker is better in hotter areas.
