This is the radio station we have been listening to since we moved to the Chicago area 13 years ago from Kansas. We got up Thursday, took the train downtown, walked over a mile to the Merchandise Mart, and peeked in on Electra , the midday host all three of us generally listen to together in the car. It was fun. Like the Finnie Balls, today's ballroom competitions are partly a response to the fact that poor, black, gay kids have few places where they can mix with Chicago's broader gay community.

Recent violence and protests in Boys Town suggest that that community is as racially and economically segregated as the rest of the city. But with segregation comes congregation, and balls are where gay black kids can find one another. It's a fascinating story of how the city's interracial drag balls of the ss merged with the New York-born art of voguing into a competitive dance style and community. Louis Area Foodbank with our sister stations I still love the feeling of sharing a brand new song that I really like, knowing that a listener is hearing it for the first time. NOW I'm a fan of X Ambassadors, so when I first played "Renegades" back in June - early for Top 40 - that was a wonderful feeling.

Playing the new Adele song for the first time gave me chills. Those are neat moments for me.
