Why do people hate sonic 2006
I would honestly like to know why everybody hates Sonic The Hedgehog I have read a lot about it online and watched a play-through on YouTube of the entire game and although it does have glitches and the romance between Sonic and Elise may be a bit unusual, I still can't find one GOOD reason why this game is marked as "the worst video-game ever made".
It's a broken, glitchy, unfinished mess with a terrible story and borderline unplayable gameplay and levels and yet was treated as the celebration 15th of the anniversary of the Sonic franchise. Say what you will about Sonic Boom, but at least that came with a solid cartoon. It's glitchy to high heaven, the game is pretty broken and a lot of things just don't work right, the story is total garbage, even beyond the romance with Elise, the level design is very slow, monotonous and boring.
Even when it's not glitching it's just uninteresting to play, not to mention the load times are atrocious and take forever. The game is ugly and takes itself oddly seriously, etc It has a few good things, I like the music, Silver's gameplay is a neat idea that could have worked in a better game, and some of the glitches and cutscenes are so bad they're good, but other than that I can't think of anything I enjoyed about it. It was a glitchy, dull, stupid mess. When they made the last-minute change of releasing the game quickly so that they can make more money on Christmas sales, it felt like a complete letdown for many Sonic fans and shows how greedy SEGA can get.
What could've been a wonderful game celebrating the series would later turn out to be a broken, glitchy mess with a bad story and confusing controls. And the reason why this is the way it is only because SEGA wanted money.
That's a terrible way of treating your fans and your 15th anniversary of your most successful franchise if you ask me. The game was rushed from a technical standpoint and generally poorly designed. The result was a game plagued with glitches, empty levels, a terrible story, and incomplete game play elements. One of the most obvious shortcomings comes in the form of Tails's levels: he literally throws a placeholder item the fake rings box as his primary attack.
Additionally, the storylines divided among Sonic, Shadow, and Silver mostly include repeated levels -- basically filler content. All told, it's an awful game. Then take into account the hype. The designers and programmers had to get the game out by the end of in order to coincide with the 15th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog.
I knew a number of Sonic fans who admitted to being excited for Sonic 06 , thinking it would be an updated 3D version of the first Sonic the Hedgehog. The bizarre story e. So both the story and the gameplay were lackluster, to say the least.
A few players, like DarkspinesSonic on YouTube, have managed to master it, making the game appear almost playable enough to be fun. But Sonic 06 's "best" features require breaking the game. Just scour YouTube for 15 for Sonic 06 playthroughs and bugs; you're bound to find out why it's such an infamous game.
Having played it for about an hour in the past, and having watched the full playthrough of it by Retsupurae, moreso for their commentary rather than interest in the game, I wouldn't say it's the worst game of all time. Definitely not, there are far worse. However, it does look terrible. Tons of technical errors, nonsensical story moments, a great number of tedious gameplay sections, repeated levels, and some really bizarre stuff, like the Hedgehog X Teen Human Princess love story going on The developers were also put on a time constraint, as far as I know, so the development process couldn't have been much fun either, to say the least.
Also, wow, didn't expect to see a "Top X" video be almost an hour long. However, it's definitely still stupid, especially when they end up reenacting the signature scene from Sleeping Beauty. I vividly remember playing the demo for this game way back when and even then I thought it was abysmal. The gameplay is so incredibly twitchy, even for a Sonic game and it all felt unresponsive in many aspects. The game's visual parts didn't look too bad for the time, it sure was Sonic in HD, but the gameplay was nearly broken.
I also remember there being some abysmal lip-syncing. This is the Sonic fandom! Well, somewhat. The plot, setting, and the concept of the game was great. The thing that was bad about it was the bull crap controls and camera angles. It just made the game WAY more harder than it should be. Like, if they made it like a year ago, instead of making it back in 06, it would have a decent chance of being tolerable, because of how much gaming has progressed in almost a single decade.
See… THAT is the problem here. They demand too much out of their games. The only thing bad about it was the controls and camera. Oh my god I am glad I am not alone I quite liked the Sonic I can survive through it without encountering glitches. I dig it. Friend's Email Address. Your Name. Your Email Address. Send Email. Why hate Sonic 06?
Only I have the real answers. I did some careful math, and came to a shocking conclusion:. Dildos were the hot, fun thing to play with during these years. However, I did a few extra mathmatical matheries, and came up with another stunning discovery:.
During this time nostalgia would set in; a yearning for the simpler times of kidnapping monsters, and forcing them to fight other monsters.
We encounter a problem when trying to apply this cycle to Sonic however. To understand this we must understand how the series entered the 3D realm. I have created a picture to illustrate my point:. As you can see in the image which I made myself. Pretty professional, don't you think?
However, during the short life time of the Sega Saturn, there were no true Sonic games released. This disrupted the cycle, something which I fear the franchise may never recover from.
Originally there was Sonic 1, 2, CD, and 3, which were all beloved. It would have been during this time where people started to get older, and would have started to believe that Sonic is " retarded ". Unfortunately, due to the hands of Sony, [2] the system never took off, and no Sonic games were released on it. With the cycle disrupted, gamers had to wait another four years for a new game. When the new game came out, they were unsure how they were supposed to feel.
The game got relatively high marks, as did the sequel, but they were no where near as high as the original games. When further sequels came out, the broken cycle caused the fan community to split, with some still in their childlike phase enjoying the games with wonder, some stuck in their teenage phase, believing the games are stupid and too childish, and some in the adult phase, where they could just enjoy the games for what they were.
Unfortunately, the largest majority of gamers got stuck in the whiny, emo teen phase. There are many reasons why the teenage phase has become the largest out of the three, but it can all be traced back to the Saturn. After the failure of their system, Sega decided to give it one last go in the console business. They built a mammoth of a monster, and named it the Dreamcast. They were sure it would sell well, after all, it had everything: State of the art graphics, online play, GD-Rom format, capable of holding 1GB, ports of arcade classics, brilliant new IPs, and best of all a brand new Sonic the Hedgehog game!
Sadly, many people did not buy the Dreamcast. Sega felt betrayed by this, and from that point on began focusing their games on the demographic that still was playing their games: Tweens.
The older gamers felt betrayed by this move, feeling that Sonic only belonged to them, and he was never allowed to change, or star in any other genres as long as they lived. This betrayal on Sega's part left the undecided gamers to fall into the teenage phase of hating the games.
As that group grew, they pulled in more, and more people who previously enjoyed the games. It seemed no one was immune. They would purposely seek out things they thought were wrong with the games, and tell Sega exactly how they felt, while offering no solutions how to fix them.
It was a lot like being in a relationship with a hot, bitchy girl. You can't do anything right. You take her to the movies, but she gets angry at you, and says she hates these movies. You ask her what kind of movies she likes. She replies, "Just forget it!
No matter what you do for her, she ends up criticizing everything you do, while never telling you how you can fix what's wrong. It's always "Nothing", or "Never mind". The difference between a hot, bitchy girl, and the fanboys is at least occasionally you can sleep with the girl. Trust me when I say you wouldn't want to sleep with the fanboys or girls.
There are plotholes in that crap. One that means Super Sonic never happened in the past Bring E. N 3rd Adventure! Besides, even if it were canon it was erased from the timeline, so it's events mean nothing. User Info: ProjectShadowX. I'm one of the few who actually enjoyed it, as well. Can't really go into much more detail than you did, TC. You covered all the main pro's and cons to the game.
But, bottom line: Why do people hate sonic 06? They're huge fans of the Genesis era, and shun and belittle many of the newer Sonics. Times change. And though Sega occasionally throws us a nod back to the past, It's not likely that we'll ever see something on the exact same wavelength as the Genesis games. They're huge fans of the Dreamcast Era. Same idea as above. Some people are awaiting for Sega to deliver an initial "Sonic Adventure 3". Again, not likely happening. Change scares people. Nuff said.
Fact is, Sega can't please everyone. Hours and hours of good times, without any of the new-world Sonic elements pissing you off. Big fan of SA? Go play that.
If you like the old shcool, go play the old school. But don't belittle those who enjoy trying something new. In addition to 1, stop buying and playing the new Sonic games altogether. Funny how some people ridicule the Bejeezus out of the new Sonic games, yet continue to buy and play through each of the new ones. You see the same people posting on these boards, saying "Yeah, i knew from the E3 trailer that this game was gonna be bad.
What does that say about your common sense? Granted, sure, if you spent your hard earned cash on a game, and were disappointed, you have right to share your discontent. But to continue to do so, game after game, just for the sake putting down those who enjoyed the game?
MY my, somebody needs something better to do with their time. Find another game to play. Sonic series not doing for you anymore? Screw it.
